Dry, Brittle Hair Issues? Tangles with Static?

This weather is the worst on my hair!

Are you battling with Dry, brittle and damaged hair ? Unsure why?

Natural Oil Is good for the hair

Natural Oil Is good for the hair

Winter weather has hit. So many of my clients ask me when behind the chair why their hair is dry. What is causing all the fallout? How can they stop the static? What dry hair really is? What causes it. Here are some questions and answers for your dry hair.

The first thing I wanna chat about is those of you that over cleanse your hair or blow dry every day. Your hair can get dry because your scalp doesn't make enough oil to moisturize your hair, or your hair lets moisture escape. Your scalp isn't making enough moisture. Hair has no natural lubrication. Sometimes, hair doesn't make enough oil, which leads to dry hair.

Clients ask me…does washing my hair too often affect my hair?

My answer is yes! By every stretch of the word it affects the outcome of the style and feel of the hair.

  • Wash your hair less often. You may be able to get away with washing once or twice a week instead of every day (many people can). As a bonus, when you shampoo less frequently, you won't need to blow dry and heat-style it as much.

  • Use a mild shampoo made specifically to help dry hair because it will have fewer drying detergents.

  • Use hair products that don’t have alcohol because it is drying.

  • Follow the shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner. It will keep cuticles lying flat so they hold in natural oils.

Does blow drying damage my hair?

REALLY? Here’s what I tell folks.

    • Correct blow-drying will not harm your hair. However, applying heat to your hair when it is already dry can cause brittleness, breakage, dullness and dryness. This will help you avoid over-drying and damaging your hair. Ideally, it is best for your hair if you leave it slightly damp, or 'just dry'.

    • Here's what a good blow dry does for your hair and your confidence.

  • It forces you to streamline your grooming routine. Blow drying your hair will get you into more of a routine.

  • It lays the groundwork for styling.

  • It gives you the hair you've always wanted.

  • It straightens your hair.

  • It increases your confidence.

Does dying my hair dry my hair out?

Hair dye can definitely dry out your hair, but it can also cause your hair to become brittle and break if you overdo it on chemical processes. To keep your hair from becoming too dry and breaking off, you should condition regularly, and use a deep conditioning mask before and after coloring.

Does dying your hair without bleach damage it?

As temporary colors don't contain bleach, they can't lighten your natural shade. Temporary dyes fade with shampooing and exposure to air. This means they need to be frequently reapplied, which can be damaging." However, permanent dyes can be more damaging to your hair.

You can do these things at home to help with these issues.

Get a trim. If your hair is too dry, it might need a reset in the form of a fresh cut.

    • Take vitamins

    • Add omega-3s and antioxidants to your diet

    • Avoid washing your hair every day

    • Wrap your hair instead of air drying

    • Cut down on heat styling

    • Try colder showers
